Microsoft Game Studios has taken the wraps off Gears of War 2, the Epic Games sequel to Gears of War coming this fall exclusively to Xbox 360.
Gears of War 2 will take place approximately 6 months after the events of the first game. Players will once again take control of Marcus Fenix to command Delta Squad against the Locust Horde.
Epic Games is pushing Gears of War 2 as offering “Bigger, better and more badass gameplay” compared to the original. There will be new characters, new guns, bigger enemies, bigger vehicles, and bigger locations offering new weapon-specific executions, chain saw duels and signature insane boss fights.
The original Gears of War was beautiful to behold and Epic Games aims to make the sequel look even better. To do this, they’ve added an amazing number of visual and environmental tweaks including, “ambient occlusion, dynamic shadows, improved character lighting, the ability to render hundreds of on-screen characters simultaneously, improved water physics, additional blood and bullet decals, advanced destructible environments, new weather effects, and the introduction of fluid objects.”
Xbox Live will continue to play a major role in Gears of War 2 with “drop in and drop out” cooperative campaign mode, all-new adversarial multiplayer modes, and of course new maps. Refining and leveling the playing field in cooperative play are unique difficulty settings for each player within the same game.
Gears of War 2 will surely kick some booty when its released in November in a regular edition and $69.99 Limited Edition set.
