You knew it was only a matter of time and now it’s official. Insomniac Games and Sony will be releasing the Resistance 3 multiplayer beta into the wild later this year.
With this news, Insomniac has begun revealing what they’re hoping to accomplish with Resistance 3’s multiplayer and cooperative gameplay modes. The inspiration comes from taking the most talked about and best features of Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 and blending them together in Resistance 3.
A radical multiplayer change is cutting the number of players in matches from 40+ down to 16-player human vs. Chimera objective-based modes and deathmatches. The locations for these brawls will take place around the globe though Insomniac isn’t quite ready to talk about all the specific locations just yet though one confirmed is the Fort Lamy Prison.
A deeper progression system will allow players to create their own paths and spend points earned on numerous upgrades and customizations. This will take on a tactical importance when playing as a team since you can gear one player’s abilities toward a unique task and another toward something entirely different. Some of these abilities to enhance your squad will include the Bubble Shield, Ammo Beacon that gives ammo to teammates, and Radar Beacon which enhances your team’s radar capabilities. Abilities that can be used against the enemy include Dash that gives you a quick burst of speed, and Doppelganger which projects a false image of yourself as a decoy and distraction.
