Sony has released 15 all-new screenshots that represent the latest playable build of the Playstation 3 exclusive MAG. While not up-to-par with the best PS3 and Xbox 360 have to offer visually, the graphics are strong enough and ambiance abundant with lighting and fog to make this 256-player behemoth not only feel next-gen, but look next-gen as well.
In addition, New MAG information has come to light in the wake of Sony’s recent Gamer’s Day event. We now know MAG will not toss you into a 256-player match from the get-go. Instead, smaller skirmishes starting at 8 vs 8 will gradually escalate into 16 vs 16, 32 vs 32 and so on until the penultimate 128 vs 128 battle is reached.
Because the emphasis on MAG is on numbers, developer Zipper Interactive has designed the maps with minimal wide expansive spaces to keep combatants relatively close to one another. They’ve also bypassed the use of human-controlled vehicles to contain quick spreading of the battlefield and maintain the experience of seeing scores of other soldiers around you at all times.
MAG should blast into stores sometime this fall or winter.
