‘Yellowstone’ Prequel ‘1883’ Coming to Paramount+ This Year

The upcoming March 4th re-branding of CBS All Access into Paramount+ spots were all over the big game and social media on Sunday. The one that generated the most buzz was the only one centered around a new series announcement.

The Paramount Network’s signature series Yellowstone starring Kevin Costner is getting a prequel series titled Yellowstone: 1883. Both come from the mind of creator Taylor Sheridan.

Better yet, this prequel series will be premiering sometime in 2021, presumably before Season 4 of the flagship Yellowstone series is ready to air.

Here’s the snowy Yellowstone: 1883 teaser with grisly voiceover.

Paramount’s official log line for Yellowstone: 1883 reads, “Follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land – Montana.”

Unlike modern day Yellowstone, this prequel series will be exclusive to Paramount+ and will surely drive quite a few new subscriptions when it debuts.

As for Yellowstone, the expectation is for it to continue to air on Paramount Network and eventually stream on Peacock.

Let’s hope Yellowstone: 1883 is to Yellowstone as what Better Call Saul is to Breaking Bad; a more than worthy franchise expansion.
