Hello, Alexandria. AMC’s The Walking Dead Season 5 will spend more time mingling in and around Alexandria after Rick and his group cautiously integrated themselves into a new society last week. Many seeds were planted for the run into the season finale while different characters acclimated to life inside the walls in different yet wholly expected ways. On the surface Alexandria almost appears to be too good to be true. It’s run by a former Congresswoman and completely self-sufficient with solar power and running water. Massive walls constructed from a nearby shopping mall site keep the walkers out while food is plentiful for all to enjoy.
What Alexandria has lacked is proper security and that’s why Rick and his ragtag group have been invited in. Life inside the walls is almost too surreal and those that have been there for years are soft. Carl can sense that if they stay they’ll turn soft, too, so there’s an uneasiness with returning to what used to be a “normal” life.
A lot happened in the last hour that will start to play out when we watch The Walking Dead live on TV or online streaming tonight. Carl met a young girl who also came in as an outsider and she’s got secrets galore, including running off into the woods to go somewhere or meet someone(s). Carol is deliberately playing the part of a housewife to hide her true skills. Daryl didn’t fit into the old world and doesn’t fit into the cleanliness and order of Alexandria, either. And Rick and Michonne have become the law while leader Deanna has a son that is a self proclaimed “douche.”
Last but certainly not least, the gun that Rick stashed in a blender outside the city walls has been taken. That means he was being watched when it was stashed and whoever was watching him didn’t want him to get it back. My guess is that Enid, the young girl Carl spotted climbing the wall, is working with an outside group that intends to take Alexandria for themselves. Rick’s arrival will certainly throw a wrench into that plot, if it exists.
The official AMC synopsis for The Walking Dead Season 5 Episode 513 reads, “As Rick and the others continue to acclimate to their new surroundings, they consider a return to normalcy.”
