Tim Burton and The Addams Family have always seemed like a match made in macabre. They’re finally going to come together; at least Burton and young Wednesday Addams will.
Netflix have announced Tim Burton’s Wednesday coming-of-age series has been green lit and will be produced by MGM/UA Television. It will be live-action, not animated, and span a total of eight episodes.
The official Netflix logline for Wednesday reads as follows:
“The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”
Burton is serving as director and executive producer. The showrunners/executive producers are Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville, Into the Badlands). Executive producing are Andrew Mittman for 1.21 (The Addams Family, Alphas), Kevin Miserocchi (Tee and Charles Addams Foundation), Kayla Alpert (Code Black, Up All Night), Jonathan Glickman for Glickmania (RESPECT, Addams Family 2), and Gail Berman (The Addams Family, Alphas)
Netflix executive Teddy Biaselli shared this blog post about the announcement with some additional insight into the project.
