The Walking Dead Season 7 Premiere

Negan’s presence will loom large over The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere episode this upcoming Sunday night. While Negan offs at least one main character from the cast with his trusty barb-wired enforced baseball bat Lucille, he won’t be the central character that the episode tracks.

In an interview with TV Guide, visual effects guru and The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere director Greg Nicotero reveals that most of the big episode will be told from Rick’s perspective, not Negan’s. “You need to get into other people’s heads as well to be able to experience grief and sorrow and fear,” Nicotero said in terms of not letting the episode be all about Rick. “So it was a very, very difficult episode to wrap my head around when I got the script because of those perspectives and how the events play out.”

We got a taste of the episode from Rick’s perspective in a preview scene that takes place shortly after Negan’s murderous act. Rick, with a splash of fresh blood across his right cheek, tells Negan that he will kill him in the future.

Negan, not convinced that taking out one of Rick’s crew effectively sent his fearful message, then drags Rick back into the camper along with a small axe. The title ‘Right Hand Man’ offers an obvious clue as to what Rick will encounter in that camper.

Don’t miss The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere this upcoming Sunday at 9/8c on AMC.
