‘The Expanse’ Renewal Given Life: May Live On at Amazon

Amazon Studios is in negotiations to revive The Expanse for a fourth season following its cancellation by SyFy on May 11th.

Though a deal is not yet closed, it is expected to go through and continue the space drama where Earth, Mars and Belters — the working class in asteroid belts — are at war over control of a mysterious alien infectious agent known as the protomolecule.

The Expanse staff has openly appealed to Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder/chief and a fan of the James S.A. Corey books the series is based off, to help bring it back from the dead. Their pleas were apparently heard and further adventures are now brewing.

Amazon Studios was initially in the running to become the home for The Expanse when it was first shopped around. The sprawling Sci-fi series went to SyFy instead as that network looked to bolster its genre programming. This reportedly angered Bezos, so Amazon got the streaming on-demand rights to the first three seasons as a consolation prize.

Now Amazon will likely end up with full rights and control over The Expanse moving forward.

Hopefully an official announcement, with an episode commitment, is made by Amazon Studios in the days ahead.
