Stranger Things Season 2 Confirmed by Netflix with 2017 Release Date

This morning Netflix finally confirmed their hit original series Stranger Things is indeed returning for a second season with a renewal announcement tied into the show’s fantastic opening title sequence and heavily synthesized theme song.

Stranger Things Season 2 will pick up roughly a year after the first eight chapters concluded, set in the fall of 1984. Co-creators Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer are both returning and it is expected that the entire principal cast including Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Cara Buono, Joe Keery, Rob Morgan and John Reynolds will also be welcomed back.

Millie Bobby Brown and Matthew Modine’s fate as returning cast members remain unknown. I’d put much higher odds on the former reemerging than the latter, especially considering Chief Hopper’s final Season 1 act of generosity and hope.

There is additional reason for celebration as Netflix has ordered up an additional episode for Stranger Things Season 2. That means we’ll get a total of nine new chapters as opposed to eight that comprised Season 1.

If you pay close attention to the Stranger Things Season 2 teaser trailer then you’ll notice nine titles that appear on-screen before the Fall 2017 release date. Those titles are hopefully the actual chapter titles for Season 2 and that means the Duffer Brothers have already cracked the season’s story line. They are, in order: Madmax, The Boy Who Came Back to Life, The Pumpkin Patch, The Palace, The Storm, The Pollywog, The Secret Cabin, The Brain and The Lost Brother.

Early sharing of episode titles doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The Duffer Brothers spoke openly about their plans for the continuation of Stranger Things long before Netflix was able to publicly announce the Season 2 renewal. Their intention is to follow Will Byers and his friends as they grow up, much like the Harry Potter series did with Harry, Ron and Hermoine. The Upside Down alternate world will also be further explored, and of course more “stranger things” are likely to occur and appear.

If we’re lucky Eleven will stumble into an Eggo Waffles manufacturing facility.

Watch the Stranger Things Season 2 teaser trailer repeatedly while we wait likely months for any additional Stranger Things Season 2 news bits to emerge. The theme song never gets old.
