A young boy discovers his destiny when crossing paths with a band of rebels in the Star Wars Rebels extended trailer, conveniently dropped just ahead of the new Lucasfilm and Disney show’s public premiere at Comic-Con in just a few days.
The trailer mainly focuses on Ezra, a 14-year old con artist whose home planet falls under Imperial rule. Ezra doesn’t exactly conform to Imperial standards or commands, and ultimately comes in contact with a band of rebels that includes a former Jedi Knight in hiding.
That Jedi, Kanan, is forced to face his past when the rebels become trapped by Imperial forces. This discovery of a Jedi leads Agent Kallus to place a call to the Inquisitor, a hunter of Jedi who now has new prey to go after.
There are many nods to the original Star Wars trilogy in the Star Wars Rebels extended trailer, including a holographic Obi-Wan Kenobi, exploding Tie Fighters, and Imperial speeder troopers that look pulled directly out of old unused Ralph McQuarrie concept art for Star Wars: A New Hope. In fact, a verbal nod to “A New Hope” is referenced in the trailer’s final line.
Star Wars Rebels will premiere as a one-hour special on Disney Channel this October, then move to Disney XD as an ongoing series. Expect the premiere date to come out of Comic-Con by this weekend.
