The fate of Star Trek: Prodigy is no longer unknown as Dal, Gwyndala, Murf and the former Protostar crew will be making their way to Netflix. Season 1 episodes, unceremoniously jettisoned from Paramount+, will arrive before year’s end, while Season 2 episodes are late in production and will premiere sometime in 2024.
The surprise cancelling of Star Trek: Prodigy from Paramount+ came as a shock to everyone since part of the streaming service’s sales pitch was to create a singular home for all Star Trek content. That decree is no longer valid with Prodigy warping off to explore the home of a much, much larger potential audience on Netflix.
Ironically Netflix is also home to the Ninjago series that helped launch the careers of Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman, co-showrunners of Star Trek: Prodigy. It’s also the exclusive home of Guillermo del Toro’s Trollhunters, another animated series they guided through production. For them this move might feel like a homecoming.
A message to our incredible fans from us and @Alex_Kurtzman. Happy to share that #StarTrekProdigy has found a NEW HOME! Star Trek: Prodigy is coming to @Netflix later in 2023, and all-new episodes in 2024.#SAVEDStarTrekProdigy pic.twitter.com/3VhYMDZQKm
