Next year’s Marvel and Netflix series Daredevil has picked up its third cast member with veteran actress Rosario Dawson joining the production.
Marvel’s description for Dawson’s character reads, “a dedicated young woman whose quest to heal the wounds of Hell’s Kitchen brings Matt Murdock unexpectedly crashing into her life, while her own journey forever alters the course of his battle against the injustices of this broken city.” What the description doesn’t offer is a name, though it’s hard to imagine Marvel not plucking a character from the comics for Dawson to fit into.
“Rosario Dawson is one the most charismatic, talented and powerful actresses in Hollywood, so she was always at the top of our list for Marvel’s Daredevil,” Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television stated in the announcement. “Her role in the series is absolutely critical to Matt Murdock’s journey to become the hero we know as Daredevil.”
Dawson joins the Daredevil cast that already includes Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, the man who will become Daredevil; and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin. Additional cast members are expected to be announced over the coming weeks as production ramps up.
The official synopsis for Marvel’s Daredevil series reads, “Marvel’s Daredevil follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.”
Netflix will exclusively stream all 13 episodes of Marvel’s Daredevil in the summer of 2015.
