With Wet Hot American Summer you tend to expect the unexpected, and that’s exactly the route that the Netflix revival series, Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp, has taken per the hilarious first trailer.
Netflix Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp is a prequel to the original film and set during the first day at Camp Firewood rather than the last. What makes this turning back of the clock hilarious is that the cast is substantially older and now playing younger versions of themselves from the original film.
Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, Joe Lo Truglio, Ken Marino, Christopher Meloni, Marguerite Moreau, Zak Orth, Amy Poehler, David Hyde Pierce, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, and Michael Showalter are all back from the Wet Hot American Summer movie to reprise their roles for the Netflix series. They are joined by newcomers Jon Hamm, Kristen Wiig, John Slattery, and others that are being kept under wraps for the time being.
Netflix will premiere all eight episodes of Netflix Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp on Friday, July 31. This is being called a “limited series” so I wouldn’t expect it to continue beyond these eight episodes. Even so, we’re getting the equivalent of multiple prequel films packed into those eight episodes so you will get no complaints from me.
