CSI: Cyber has recruited a new series regular from within the CBS family with James Van Der Beek formally joining the growing cast.
Per TVLine, Van Der Beek will play the role of FBI Agent Elijah Mundo, a battlefield forensics expert who knows the inside and out of vehicles, weapons and bombs. Mundo is recruited into the FBI’s Cyber Crime Division by Special Agent Avery Ryan (Patricia Arquette) and should find use in his skills as the division tracks down the most dangerous cyber criminals.
The CSI: Cyber cast also thus far includes Charley Koontz (Community) as Agent Daniel Grummitz and Peter MacNicol (Numb3rs) as Avery’s immediate supervisor.
Van Der Beek was last seen in the CBS series Friends with Better Lives, which was cancelled this past spring. He will forever be most recognizable for his role on The CW series Dawson’s Creek and the movie Varsity Blues. The Internet has also been kind to Van Der Beek’s exposure by making a long series of memes the actor created go viral.
CBS is targeting a mid-seasons premiere for CSI: Cyber that could fall in February or March of 2015. Original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation producers Carol Mendelsohn, Anthony Zuiker and Ann Donahue are on board to produce the new spin-off series and have penned the pilot.
