Heroes Reborn Casts a Familiar Face and Pair of Glasses

NBC has landed its first Heroes actor to reprise their role in the upcoming Heroes Reborn miniseries coming next year.

Jack Coleman, the man known affectionately across the Internet has “Horn-Rimmed Glasses” or “HRG” in Heroes until his character was given the name Noah Bennet several episodes in, has signed on to star in Heroes Reborn. The news first broke via Deadline and then was confirmed by NBC on social media.

The irony of NBC making their first Heroes Reborn cast announcement via social media is that Heroes was the type of show that would have thrived on Facebook and Twitter had the platforms existed between 2006-2010 as they do today. NBC is hoping to recapture the ratings and water cooler chatter magic of Heroes Season 1, and bringing Jack Coleman on board is a great first step in ensuring that happens.

Deadline also reports that several other cast members from the original Heroes have been approached to appear in Heroes Reborn. Apparently Zachary Quinto aka Sylar and Milo Ventimiglia aka Peter Petrelli are unavailable for the miniseries at this time. It would be odd to have HRG and not his daughter, Claire, played by Hayden Panettiere, but she’s currently wrapped up in Nashville on ABC. Masi Oka as Hiro Nakamura, James Kyson as Ando Masahashi and Greg Grunberg as Matt Parkman seem like logical targets for NBC to go after.

Tim Kring, the Heroes series creator and showrunner, is bringing the franchise back with Heroes Reborn as a limited 13-episode miniseries. But you can bet that if Heroes Reborn is a ratings powerhouse for NBC that additional episodes will be sought.
