HBO Go on Xbox One Release Date Still Unknown

HBO Go on Xbox One release date

HBO Go on Xbox One will happen, but when it will happen remains a mystery after a seemingly imminent release was publicized by Microsoft yesterday.

The teasing began with a new tile that popped up on the Xbox 360 dashboard that HBO Go was now on Xbox One. Despite the tile’s messaging and its official appearance, there was no sign of the HBO Go app anywhere to be found on Xbox One in the Xbox Store.

The story grew stranger later in the day when Microsoft released a video on their official YouTube channel claiming the HBO Go app on Xbox One was live as of “today.” That video has since been set to private.

Despite Microsoft’s marketing gaffe, the publisher is still mum on a precise HBO Go on Xbox One release date. They told Polygon that “more details are coming soon,” but chose not to offer a more narrowed down time frame.

HBO has been adamant over the past year about HBO Go coming to Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4 before year’s end. A cable/satellite/provider subscription with HBO in the package is required to utilize HBO Go to watch programming including Game of Thrones and True Detective. However, HBO is planning to offer their pay channel directly to consumers via the Internet sometime in 2015.
