HBO is getting a head start on their Game of Thrones Season 5 marketing campaign with a little slice of footage and a bizarre viral website that promises more sneak peeks are coming our way in the near future.
While the little clip is not a Game of Thrones Season 5 trailer per se, it does offer the first official footage seen from the upcoming fifth season. All the footage seems to revolve around Arya Stark and a dark journey that awaits the young Stark daughter as she forges the next leg of her journey on her own.
The teaser video came with instructions to “follow the three-eyed raven,” along with a website ThreeEyedRaven.com that requests visitors let the official Game of Thrones Twitter account send them updates via direct messages.
The speed at which HBO has been producing new seasons of Game of Thrones, combined with author George R.R. Martin’s sluggishness in publishing new book installments, has led to several of the TV storylines catching up to the books. It’s already known that Bran’s story is current and will be rested for the entirety of Season 5. Other characters will see their screen time reduced or increased as more TV stories catch up to the books.
Previous seasons of HBO’s Game of Thrones premiered in either the last week of March or first week of April. Expect the Game of Thrones Season 5 premiere date to fall in the same window of spring 2015.
