AMC plays second fiddle to absolutely no one when it comes to new series premieres and setting ratings records. Their latest crowning achievement, Fear The Walking Dead, broke their own record set earlier this year.
With Talking Dead as a lead-in and The Walking Dead as its sibling, Fear The Walking Dead ratings were through the roof with 10.1 million total viewers tuning in for the special 90-minute premiere on Sunday night. That mark set a new cable record for a new series premiere by besting AMC’s Better Call Saul and the 6.88 million viewers it attracted.
The news got better for AMC when looking at the 18-49 demo. This is where The Walking Dead has thrived and Fear The Walking Dead was no different with 6.3 million or well over half of its viewership falling.
When it comes to rivaling its namesake there’s still a lot of ground for Fear The Walking Dead to make up. The Walking Dead drew a whopping 17.3 million viewers in October 2014 for the Season 5 premiere. Season 6 bows this October and will likely surpass that mark.
Fear The Walking Dead has only five more episodes left in its inaugural season. “Fear” not as 15 episodes are already ordered up and being planned for a second season to debut in 2016.
