‘DC’s Stargirl’ Gets Season 2 Renewal and The CW Exclusivity

DC’s Stargirl has been officially renewed for a second season, but not everything is going to be quite the same for its sophomore outing.

Whereas Season 1 was shared between the DC Universe streaming service and The CW — the latter of which aired episodes a day later than the former — Season 2 will air exclusively on The CW with DC Universe bowing out.

This news immediately throws up red flags among the fandom given The CW’s track record for inherited shows. Supergirl Season 1 originally was produced for CBS and arguably had better production values before its move to The CW for Season 2 and beyond.

There’s a chance that DC’s Stargirl will suffer a similar fate. Season 1 has been praised for its visual effects and high stakes where multiple characters have already died at the hands of Icicle and the Injustice Society. It’s quite evident so far that DC’s Stargirl Season 1 budget trumps those of other The CW Arrowverse shows like The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.

The earliest you can expect to see DC’s Stargirl Season 2 on the small screen is midway through 2021.

DC’s Stargirl stars Brec Bassinger, Amy Smart and Luke Wilson.
