Showrunners Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan have shared the core Better Call Saul cast list as well as released the second and third images snapped from presumably the pilot episode.
Previously announced stars and Breaking Bad alumni Bob Odenkirk (Saul) and Jonathan Banks (Mike Ehrmantraut) will be joined by Patrick Fabian as Hamlin, Michael Mando as Nacho, Michael McKean as Chuck, and Rhea Seehorn as Kim. Last names are deliberately being kept under wraps for the time being.
McKean’s Chuck character is Saul’s brother and figures to have a prominent role on the show. The absence of Chuck in Breaking Bad suggests that these two characters will part ways at some point in the future, either by choice or by Chuck’s death.
Both Gilligan and Gould have stated on numerous occasions that Better Call Saul will implement non-linear storytelling as Breaking Bad did. At the same time, they have revealed that presumably the bulk of the show will be a period piece set in 2002, putting it five years behind the first season of Breaking Bad.
The first season of Better Call Saul was originally planned to premiere this November. It was recently delayed into spring 2015, and Gilligan takes responsibility for the delay. “We have a way of doing things that is slower than most TV shows,” Gilligan stated at the Summer TCA tour. “We want to think everything through and we feel that that pays dividends.”
Better Call Saul Season 1 will run 10 episodes, while the already ordered second season jumps to 13 episodes.
