Netflix has renewed the Sci-Fi original series Altered Carbon for a second season, and in a piece of inspired casting has landed Anthony Mackie as the new series lead.
Mackie will play Takeshi Kovacs, the show’s central protagonist played by Joel Kinnaman during the first season. Kovacs inhabits many different bodies over the course of Richard K. Morgan’s novels from which the series is based. In theory, Netflix could bring back a new actor to portray Kovacs for each new season.
Mackie is best known for playing Sam Wilson/The Falcon in multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe films. He’s also starred in Million Dollar Baby, The Hurt Locker, and several other high profile films.
Newcomer Alison Schapker will become co-showrunner alongside co-showrunner Laeta Kalogridis who returns from Season 1.
Altered Carbon Season 2 will span eight total episodes and is expected to premiere sometime in 2019.
