Marvel and ABC have finally graced us with the first Agents of SHIELD Season 2 trailer, even if it does come only three weeks away from the Season 2 premiere and features a good bit of footage from last season. It also gives us a glimpse into what’s to come and that’s always welcome in my book.
Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) provides a monologue for the trailer that paints a ghostly image for his operatives moving forward. The S.H.I.E.L.D. he has consumed control of is not the same outfit he previously gave his life for. He and his team are virtually outlaws and must operate out of the shadows to keep innocents safe.
The treason that defined the final acts of Agents of SHIELD Season 1 is reinforced in the Season 2 trailer with imagery of Agent Victoria Hand’s bloody hand. She was murdered by Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an undercover Hydra operative now in S.H.I.E.L.D. custody. He’ll have to answer to Skye and her friends now and they weren’t about to give him access to a razor for a clean shave based on his new formed bushy beard.
Skye’s (Chloe Bennet) destiny this season is on a collision course with her father, whoever or whatever he may be. After Ward’s betrayal, she’s embraced her inner operative and will be breaking out the fighting skills this season. Watch out, Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen).
Agents of SHIELD returns on Tuesday, September 23 at 9/8c on ABC.
