‘Rangers of the New Republic’ Disney+ Series Announced

One of several new Star Wars series coming to Disney+ in the coming years is Rangers of the New Republic as announced by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy during Disney’s recent 2020 Investor’s Day.

Don’t get too excited just yet as this series is likely still a little ways off. As such, only two bits of information were shared about Rangers of the New Republic.

First, it will be a spin-off of and set during the same time frame as The Mandalorian and another freshly announced spin-off series, Ahsoka starring Rosario Dawson in the title role.

Second, the series is being developed by The Mandalorian’s Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, whom are both actively working on the scripts.

Seeds for Rangers of the New Republic may have already been planted during the The Mandalorian Season 2. Actor Paul Sun-Hyung has appeared twice as New Republic pilot Carson Teva, a seemingly veteran pilot who is patrolling the outer rim and believes there’s something bad brewing among the Imperial remnants.

In Teva’s second appearance on Nevarro, he commended Cara Dune (Gina Carano) for her bravery as a Rebel Commando drop trooper and awarded her a Marshall of the New Republic badge and legitimate enforcer position.

In The Mandalorian: Chapter 15 which just aired this past Friday, Marshall Dune took notice of Migs Mayfeld’s (Bill Burr) exemplary shooting skills and willingness to do the right thing against the oppressive Imperial remnants. She subsequently freed the former Imperial sharpshooter rather than take him back to prison duty.

Migs is now a free man, stranded on a jungle planet, and ripe for recruiting to the Rangers of the New Republic.
