Wolverine 2 to be Called “The Wolverine”

Darren Aronofsky taking the reigns of X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 for Fox was only the first strange revelation the continuation of Logan’s adventures has seen.

After confirming that cinematographer Matty Libatique will work on the Wolverine sequel, Aronofsky told HitFix the film won’t be a sequel at all. It will be called “The Wolverine” and will be devoid of any numerical representation. The film is still expected to take place mostly in Japan, where a post-credits ending of X-Men Origins: Wolverine suggested the story was headed, but the film will not be a sequel in the traditional sense. It will work strictly as a “one-off.”

This strange turn of events follows Mathew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class which rewinds the X-Men story back to before Xavier and Magneto were enemies.
