A near miracle arrived on the set of Wheel of Fortune when a contestant shocked the audience and host Pat Sajak with an improbable guess to win the Bonus Round jackpot. Watch the entire event unfold below.
Contestant Emil De Leon was in the Bonus Round and got to pick an additional three consonants and a vowel after the three-word puzzle had revealed the letters N and E to begin the first word from the standard letters turned. Emil’s extra picks uncovered no additional letters and he was stuck trying to guess the “Thing” with only two letters revealed.
Before the clock started, Pat Sajak told Emil how hard the puzzle would be to solve with only two letters turned and such a vague clue. As the clock started, Emil blurted out “New Baby Buggy” and Sajak was absolutely shocked that the contestant’s guess was absolutely correct.
Sajak’s reaction is pretty priceless as he even pats down Emil like a cop to a criminal in amazement that such a random guess would be correct. Emil’s fortune scored him an additional $45,000 on top of the $15,000 plus he had won in the previous rounds. Talk about having your lucky day.
The media jumped on this story after the YouTube video went viral with over 2 million views and questions started to arise about Emil possibly knowing the answer beforehand. Emil, a nursing student who has watched the show religiously for years, swears he had babies on the mind and just randomly guessed. That guess has gotten the best publicity Wheel of Fortune could ever ask for without having to spend a penny out of the marketing budget.
Pat Sajak afterward admitted that Emil’s guess is the luckiest thing he’s ever seen on Wheel of Fortune in his over 30 years of serving as the game show’s host.
