Weekend Box Office Actuals: Despicable Me Short of $60 Million

Despicable Me ended up with an amazing $56.4 million opening weekend despite seeing nearly $4 million shaved off the initial studio estimates when the actual numbers were reported. In fact, pretty much every film in the top 5 including The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Predators, Toy Story 3 and The Last Airbender dropped from estimates to actuals.

In our interactive weekly Weekend Box Office Prophet Game, the Prophet’s predictions lost to the average player predictions in a 0-5 shutout for the first time since the game’s inception last year (see the results). The players win means top finisher moviefreak takes home the Blu-ray prize jackpot: Circle of Pain, Showgirls and Predator: Ultimate Collector’s Edition.
