Norman Reedus as Daryl Dixon makes a casual yet humorous appearance in The Walking Dead themed Super Bowl commercial for Time Warner Cable.
The commercial starts with a suburban mom doing the dishes, only the dish is a machete that has zombie guts all over it. Upstairs her daughter is streaming The Walking Dead on her laptop while feeding a chained-up zombie, something mom doesn’t approve of. In a great nod to Season 1, the daughter’s door has “Don’t Open Dead Inside” spray-painted on it.
Move to the hallway where mom is trying to mop up the mess being lefy by the infamous Bicycle Zombie that made an unforgettable appearance in the series debut.
As mom heads back toward the family room shaking her head, a zombie walks by and then a crossbow arrow blows right through its head. The mom looks into the family room here dad is watching The Walking Dead on the TV amongst a pile of zombie bodies and Daryl Dixon. “Sorry” says Daryl at the mom’s disgusted look, then “Yes ma’am” when mom says to clean up the big mess. Action and manners, the two traits women most love about Daryl.
The ad uses The Walking Dead to promote Time Warner Cable’s TV, Internet and phone services. There’s no mention of The Walking Dead: Season 3 and there doesn’t need to be. The ad is a great nod to the series that all fans should enjoy.
