AMC’s The Walking Dead starts Season 4 tonight with the all-new episode ’30 Days Without an Accident.’ It marks not only another chapter in The Walking Dead series, but the first episode under the show’s third showrunner Scott Gimple. And it is an episode you won’t want to miss.
When The Walking Dead returns, several months will have passed since the events of the Season 3 finale. Many new faces are now calling the prison their home, and new relationships have struck up over the passed time. You can find a live online stream option for tonight’s The Walking Dead presented via the link below.
Most of the main players from Season 3 make an appearance in the Season 4 premiere save for the Governor, who will play a role in Season 4 but no one knows when or where he will show up. Tyreese, Sasha, Rick, Daryl, Carol, Glenn, Maggie, Hershel, Beth and the rest of the gang are joined by newcomers including former Army medic Bob Stoocky, enough kids for Carol to hold a class for them, and even a new love interest for one of the show’s younger stars.
The passage of time since the Season 3 finale has most affected Rick Grimes and his relationship with his son. When we last saw Rick, he finally overcame his paranoia about letting others into his prison community and welcomed the residents of Woodbury with cautionsly open arms. He has seen his son Carl showing signs of losing his humanity and wanted to do everything in his power to not let that happen.
In the Season 4 premiere, you will watch a new Rick Grimes whom has turned in his gun to tend to the prison community crops instead. Rick is all about creating the best possible environment for his son and daughter in the midst of a zombie apocalypse, and has opted the leave the task of running the community’s affair to a council of five instead.
Gimple has openly talked about creating more character moments and backstory in Season 4, and you will get a taste of that tonight. Some might argue the episode is too much of a slow burn, but at the same time, it includes one of the most complex action scenes shot in the series to date. And yes, there will be multiple casualties before the episode is through, and the final moments set up a big problem for Rick and his people heading into the second episode.
