Pixar will continue a tradition of premiering new animated shorts in front of their feature-length films with the June 21 release of Monsters University. A sneak peek of the new short has come online and promises a love story set amongst a sea of redundancy.
Titled The Blue Umbrella, the new short from Pixar animator Saschka Unseld stars its name: a blue umbrella. This lonely fellow with facial features drawn from the simplest design elements feels a bit bored stuck amongst a sea of black umbrellas in the pouring rain. That is until he spots a stunning red umbrella next to him and takes notice, only to get caught staring at the lovely lady… err… rain protection accessory and feeling a bit shy.
The official synopsis for The Blue Umbrella reads, “Amidst the rain in a singing city, two umbrellas – one blue, one not – fall eternally in love.”
Again, look for The Blue Umbrella to play in front of Monsters University this June, and to appear on the Monsters University Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD later this fall.
