Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode 3 ‘The Asset’ will premiere tonight on ABC at 8/7c and find Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team tasked with finding a missing person after the “Bus” had a hole blown through its side in the previous episode. In the previous episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Coulson encountered an old flame while securing a dangerous mysterious object in South America. After the Bus and the team was taken as prisoners, Coulson’s group had to put their differences aside and come together for the first time in order to live. As a result, Skye found herself formally invited to join Coulson’s team and took him up on the offer, all the while keeping in contact with Rising Sun and telling them “she’s in.”
Creator Joss Whedon, along with showrunners Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen, have been sprinkling references to the Marvel Cinematic Universe films that have already been released throughout each of the first two episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. It is unknown whether there will be any real-time links between the series and Thor: The Dark World, which premieres next month.
Tonight’s episode title ‘The Asset’ refers to Dr. Franklin Hall, a scientist whom has been kidnapped. Coulson and his S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are tasked with locating him against a ticking clock, while Skye is officially sent out into the field for the first time. Apparently Skye is the key to the mission, even when nothing goes as planned.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. took a bit of a ratings hit in its second episode with a 34 percent drop over the pilot. That’s to be expected considering the pilot drew 12.1 million viewers and many more streamed it online for free after it became available. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. draws an Internet savvy audience so online streaming will be a preferred method of watching for many.
Starring in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Brett Dalton as Agent Grant Ward, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Chloe Bennet as Skye, Iain De Caesetecker as Agent Leo Fitz, and Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons. Cobie Smulders had a cameo in the pilot as Agent Maria Hill, and Samuel L. Jackson appeared in the second episode as Nick Fury.
