When Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince vacated its pre-Thanksgiving release date this past November, they may have given up any hope of owning the month for the remainder of the series.
A mere two days after announcing Chris Weitz has landed the job to direct New Moon, Summit has pegged a target release date of November 20, 2009 for the Twilight sequel.
It would appear Summit is locked into owning November for the series’ next three films leaving Warner Brothers and the Potter franchise to either remain in July or go head-to-head with Twilight.
New Moon will have other competition on November 20 as several films have already been slated for that date. The biggest is Warner and Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr, the animated Planet 51 and an as-of-yet titled Three Stooges flick.
Next up for New Moon announcements should be returning and new cast decisions. Stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are already locked in.
