Captain America casting rumors gained more momentum this morning when a trio of television actors were mentioned as having read for the title role.
According to BigShinyRobot.com, a friend of a friend within Marvel Studios has confirmed that Jensen Ackles (Supernatural), Ryan McPartlin (Chuck), and Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) have all read to play Captain America, amongst other television actors. I put together a mugshot of each below (left to right: Jensen, Ryan, Chad) for those unfamiliar with them.
The reasoning for going the relatively known television actor route apparently has to do with finances. “When the script came in with World War II sequences (featuring the Invaders), the studio heads decided it was beyond their means to make this movie AND afford A-listers like Brad Pitt and Matt Damon,” the source said. “Sure sounds like everyone’s high on McPartlin, who evidently just lost out on the Superman role to Brandon Routh.”
McPartlin looks the part more than the other two, but I can see some fans speaking up for Ackles based on his active role on Supernatural. Whoever is chosen, it looks like director Joe Johnston and company do not want to compromise their story to pay for high priced talent. Unlike the direction Jon Favreau has chosen for Iron Man 2.
