Transformers: Dark of the Moon Blu-ray Includes $10 Off Blu-ray 3D Ultimate Edition

My friendly neighborhood FedEx driver dropped off Transformers: Dark of the Moon on Blu-ray and DVD combo pack today. A review will be forthcoming, but before I dive into Michael Bay’s final foray into the world of Autobots and Decepticons with Shia LaBeouf, I wanted to share what was found inside the package.

As you may or may not already know, the September 30 release of Transformers: Dark of the Moon on Blu-ray and DVD does not contain a single bonus feature. It is designed to get the movie in homes as soon as possible – exactly three months after the theatrical debut – so that a more robust Ultimate Edition can be sold later on.

Packed inside my copy of Transformers: Dark of the Moon on Blu-ray and DVD is a manufacturer’s coupon entitling the owner to $10 off the “Ultimate Edition with Blu-ray 3D” expiring on June 30, 2012. There’s no release date (November is the best guess right now), but it does promise to be “loaded with never-before-seen exclusive bonus content.” Versions of the film will include the Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD and a digital copy.

The question this coupon raises is whether a Blu-ray 2D version of the Transformers: Dark of the Moon Ultimate Edition will be available, or if Paramount will use the $1 billion plus blockbuster to put the 3D version under Christmas trees. We should find out definitively within the next month or two.
