Pixar and Disney’s Toy Story 3 walked the path of studio estimates by raking in an impressive $41 million on its opening day at the box office. The tally puts it on pace to accumulate $115 to $120 in box office receipts through Sunday, easily the highest Pixar opening of all time.
Warner Bros.’ Jonah Hex failed to meet its estimates despite the studio revising them down right up to its release. Once expected to open above $10 million, Hex could only muster $2 million on Friday and will need more than a horse with gatling guns and bustier bursting Megan Fox to break $6 million for the weekend.
Jaden Smith as The Karate Kid continues to successfully fight for box office dollars with $8.9 million for its second Friday in theaters. A $25-$30 million weekend is within reach with an expected bump in business from families attending matinee showings.
The top 5 rounds out with Fox’s The A-Team at $4.2 million and Shrek Forever After at $2.5 million.
Full weekend box office estimates will be published early Sunday afternoon.
