Last week’s episode of The Walking Dead on AMC took a detour through the Georgia countryside and away from the prominent Season 3 settings of the prison and Woodbury. It sent Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Carl (Chandler Riggs) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) on a supplies run into Rick’s old stomping grounds in what amounted to a classic “road trip” episode. With that refreshing excursion out of the way, it’s time to return to the main conflict at hand. Online streaming details for tonight’s new episode ‘Arrow on the Doorpost’ is available at the end of this article.
The munitions run may not have seemed like it had a lot to do with Season 3’s main arc but it actually did. Rick saw a possible future version of himself in barricaded Morgan and seemed to turn a corner and take a step back toward sanity and rediscovering his humanity. Michonne proved herself as “one of the group” to Carl, who in turn alerted his pleased dad. Rick needs all the fighters he can get and there’s none better at melee combat than Michonne.
Unfortunately Rick was unable to convince the talented sniper Morgan to join his group so the trio returned to Woodbury without him. Still, the new weapons and ammunition, plus the bonds they formed and Rick snapping out of crazyville, should prove vital in the oncoming battle against the Governor (David Morrissey).
Previews for tonight’s new episode show Andrea (Laurie Holden) has put together a truce meeting between Rick and the Governor that will mark their first face-to-face encounter. We don’t know how his meeting at what looks like a barn will end, but the odds of the two leaders shaking hands and leaving their anger toward one another in the past is all but impossible. War seems inevitable at this point regardless of Andrea’s good intentions to save both groups she has grown attached to.
I still maintain that the wild card heading into the final episodes of Season 3 is Milton. He hasn’t really done much yet other than rat out Andrea’s trip to the prison to the Governor. Milton’s lack of a spine would make him the perfect turncoat; that is assuming Andrea can convince him to walk away from the man he has answered to since the zombie apocalypse began. Who better than to undermine the Governor than the one person he trusts most.
