The Walking Dead Season 3 Deleted Scene: Carl and Beth Get Philosophical

The Walking Dead Season 3 Deleted Scene: Carl and Beth Get PhilosophicalSome great character moments wound up on the cutting room floor for Season 3 of AMC’s The Walking Dead, several of which wound up on the recently released Blu-ray and DVD sets. One such scene pairs two characters who many thought might be working their way toward a future romantic encounter that never picked up any momentum in the third season.

The scene features Chandler Riggs (Carl) and Emily Kinney (Beth) discussing a philosophical question that has been hanging over the show since it began. What happens to someone’s soul after they die and before they turn into a zombie? It’s a fantastic question posed by Carl that not even the adults seem interested in contemplating.

The discussion likely occurred right after Carl’s mom, Lori, died in a brutal manner at his hand. That event changed Carl forever as was evidenced throughout the rest of the third season and especially during the season finale. Carl carries the weight of his mother’s death on his shoulders and that’s a burden no child should have to endure.
