The Vampire Diaries is in the process of transitioning one of its main characters as it transitions from Season 3 to Season 4. It’s a good thing for Elena (Nina Dobrev) that death isn’t necessarily the end of life.
In a new trailer for The CW’s The Vampire Diaries: Season 4, Elena awakens after her tragic car accident to discover that she has been brought back to life as a vampire. Much like Tara in True Blood, Nina isn’t too thrilled with the idea of, as pessimist Damon (Ian Somerhalder) puts it, “you feed or you die.”
There may be an out for Elena before she goes 100% vamp. As it turns out, she has 24 hours of transition time before the full vampire transformation process is complete. She can either choose door number one and feed as instructed to become a vampire, door number number two and deliberately starve and die for good, or pin all hopes on door number three.
That third door is Bonnie (Kat Graham) who may be able to cast a spell and reverse the vampire effect before it sets in permanently. What ramifications this would have are unclear, but it’s certainly clear that Elena’s life post-car accident is going to be permanently altered from before the wreck.
The Vampire Diaries: Season 4 kicks off on Thursday, October 11 at 8/7c on The CW channel. The Vampire Diaries: Season 3 will be released on Blu-ray and DVD this upcoming Tuesday, September 11.
