The Ultimate Matrix Collection Coming to Blu-ray

Warner Home Video has announced The Ultimate Matrix Trilogy, modeled after the previously released HD DVD version of the same name, is coming to Blu-ray Disc on October 14. The release is timed to coincide with another visceral Warner title, Speed Racer.

We expect this new Blu-ray version to be packed with everything found on the HD DVD version including the picture-in-picture In-Movie Experience feature.

Other highlights include The Animatrix animated short film and a boatload of commentaries, featurettes and much more.

There had been speculation The Animatrix would be offered in 1080p high definition 1080p video unlike the 480p transfer included on the HD DVD version. This announcement doesn’t confirm or deny that, but we can see that at least two of the 7 discs comprising the set will be DVD-5 and DVD-9s, respectively.

Now the bad news: The Ultimate Matrix Collection is currently the only announced Blu-ray set from The Matrix films thus far. It carries a steep SRP of $129.95 which will translate to around $90 to $100 retail.
