According to a tweet from Production Weekly, the prequel film to John Carpenter’s The Thing is set to begin shooting in approximately two months time.
The tweet reads verbatim, “Universal’s prequel to John Carpenter’s classic thriller “The Thing,” is due to begin filming March and continue till June in Toronto.”
Little is known about the prequel other than Matthijs van Heijningen, Jr. is on board to direct a screenplay originally penned by Ron Moore of Battlestar Galactica fame and subsequently polished by The Nightmare on Elm Street remake’s Eric Heisserer.
Since the tweet first appeared a few hours ago, STYD confirmed with Universal that The Thing prequel will be a theatrical release and not direct-to-video. With shooting just around the corner we expect to hear about casting and at least a logline, if not a full description, by month’s end.
