VideoBusiness.com is reporting Disney Home Video has set a date for Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas on Blu-ray Disc. We’ve been able to confirm that date, August 26, is right on the money.
This new version of The Nightmare Before Christmas that will appear on Blu-ray and DVD has been dubbed a “collector’s edition,” following up on the previous DVD “special edition” release.
Among the extra features reported to be included are an introduction by Tim Burton exclusive to Blu-ray; a poem penned by Burton and narrated by actor Christopher Lee; a commentary from Burton, director Henry Selick and composer Danny Elfman; a Tour of Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion ride featurette; a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of Nightmare Before Christmas featurette; and Tim Burton’s short film “Vincent.” Additional features might be revealed with Disney’s official announcement.
The Nightmare Before Christmas will be the first Disney Blu-ray title to include a standard definition digital copy of the film. Disney is calling this copy the “Disneyfile,” which suggests it may become commonplace on future Disney Blu-ray releases. Unlike Fox using a second disc for the copy, Disney has packed it onto the same single disc as the high-def feature.
The inclusion of a digital copy has pushed the SRP of The Nightmare Before Christmas on Blu-ray up to $39.99, a $5 hike over Disney’s previous $34.99 norm.
