The Lord of the Rings Films Being Released as Blu-ray Singles

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy Blu-ray box set is being broken up by Warner Home Video. On September 14, each of the three LOTR films: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King, will be sold for the first time as Blu-ray singles with an SRP of $24.98.

These are the same theatrical cuts with the same bonus features and disc specs currently available in the trilogy box set. The yearned for extended editions on Blu-ray are still speculatively tied into the eventual release of The Hobbit in theaters. In other words, it could be several years because of The Hobbit’s struggles yet unless Warner gives in and gives the fans what they want.

The reason Warner is releasing the LOTR films as Blu-ray singles is to coincide with the September release of the Aragon’s Quest video game for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii. In fact, purchasing that game will give you a $10 off coupon for the Lord of the Rings Trilogy on Blu-ray.
