We knew The Little Mermaid would be swimming onto Blu-ray later this year with recent news that the theatrical re-release in 3D planned for September had been canned. Sure enough, it is.
Thanks to a new trailer, it is confirmed that The Little Mermaid is indeed getting a Diamond Edition Blu-ray and HD digital download release on October 1, 2013. For the time being it looks as if the incomplete 3D edition will not be completed for the high definition home video debut. Whether it ever will remains to be seen.
Given the early nature of this announcement, there is no additional information available to share about The Little Mermaid Blu-ray release at this time. A formal press release isn’t expected to be issued for several months. Until then, rest assured you’ll be able to add Ariel and her friends to your Blu-ray collection before the year is out.
