Disney has yet to officially announce the details and release date for The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast on Diamond Edition Blu-ray 3D but we’ve known of their existence since last year. Thanks to online retailer Amazon.com, we know a little more about these titles and can start pre-ordering them as well.
Beauty and the Beast’s Blu-ray 3D debut will span 5 discs and includes the film on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray 2D, DVD, a special features disc, and a digital copy. Amazon is offering their pre-order at $34.99.
For The Lion King’s Blu-ray debut, Disney is betting on a pair of Blu-ray 3D powered skus to drive sales. A four-disc set that includes The Lion King on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray 2D, DVD and a digital copy is currently a hot seller having moved to the top of Amazon’s Blu-ray bestseller chart already. It is priced at $36.99.
For the real Lion King fan, Disney has put together The Lion King Trilogy, a massive 8-disc box set. Included will be all the contents of the 4-disc Blu-ray 3D release as well as The Lion King 1 1/2 on Blu-ray and DVD, and The Lion King 2 on Blu-ray + DVD. This set will set you back $74.99.
