The Hunger Games movie premiere lurks around the corner at a hair past three weeks away, and finally distributor Lionsgate has peeled away another layer of secrecy and shared what is the first clip plucked from the hotly anticipated film based on Suzanne Collins’ bestselling young adult book.
Star Jennifer Lawrence in the role of tribute Katniss Everdeen is featured in the short clip as part of the preparation process for participating in the deadly Hunger Games event she volunteered for to shelter her younger sister. Katniss stands before a panel of judges in the Panem Capitol and is asked to put her archery skills on display for evaluation, a trial each tribute must complete. She’ll be graded with a numerical score between 1 and 12 that will factor into the betting odds on her survival when the deadly Games begin.
The judges have been through this process countless times before and are quite bored of it, showing more interest in mingling amongst a lavish feast than watching Katniss split the bullseye. Clearly not amused, Katniss takes offense to being ignored after firing a perfect shot and gets the judges attention the only way she knows how.
The Hunger Games is directed by Gary Ross and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks and Woody Harrelson. The games will begin in theaters beginning March 23.
