Warner Bros. has announced all the details pertaining to the previously confirmed The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition from director Peter Jackson on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD, and it’s not just the film where new material will be showing up.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition will released on disc November 5 and via Digital HD download on October 22. It adds 13 minutes to the film’s already robust running time that “extends individual scenes” rather than offer all-new scenes. You can get a flavor of what’s new in the Extended Cut trailer below as well as see the Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D cover art.
In addition to a longer cut of the film, this new release will include over nine hours of all-new bonus features that will stretch the Blu-ray 3D combo pack to a whopping five discs and the Blu-ray combo pack to three discs. Both versions will include UltraViolet as well as these new bonus features and the previously available bonus features:
- Commentary with Peter Jackson, Director/Producer/Screenwriter and Philippa Boyens, Co-Producer/Screenwriter
- The Appendices – A multi-part chronological history of the filming of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, covering pre-production in the various departments of the film in the months leading up to the start of principal photography, the boot camp training for the main cast, the work done on set chronologically through the three shooting blocks and in the world of its digital effects.
- New Zealand: Home of Middle-earth
