Now that Todd Phillips is comfortably loaded after earning approximately $35 million from The Hangover, he can set his sights on a couple new projects will full studio support.
Although The Hangover 2 was green lit before the original was mass released, Phillips will direct Due Date before returning to the realm of drunken idiots per Variety. The Hangover’s Zach Galifianakis is already on board as one of the leads in the film about an expectant dad and an unlikely cross-country traveling partner. Phillips describes it as a “buddy comedy without the buddies.”
Due Date will follow the same schedule as The Hangover with production starting October 6 for a June 2010 release. Continuing the pattern, The Hangover 2 will begin production in October 2010 for a Memorial Day weekend 2011 release.
The Hangover’s is expected to next conquer home video with a September or October release on Blu-ray Disc and DVD.
