The Expendables Blu-ray Dated; No Director’s Cut

Updated: Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables has popped up for pre-order at Amazon.com with a November 23 release date in a Blu-ray + DVD + digital copy configuration. The suggested retail price is $39.99 and Amazon’s pre-sale price is $27.99.

IGN has the full scoop which brings with it a bit of bad news. Sly Stallone has been tweeting about a new director’s cut of The Expendables for weeks. In his words and written on September 29, “Just finished last expendables cut and I like it much more than the theatrical cut.” Yet according to IGN’s exclusive announcement, the director’s cut is a no show on this upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release.

Lionsgate could be aggressively planning a double-dip of The Expendables with the theatrical cut on November 23 and the new director’s cut in either 2011 or when The Expendables 2 launches theatrically. Or, they could be planning a theatrical re-release with the director’s cut sometime in 2011. Whichever the case may be, we won’t get to watch the director’s cut on November 23.
