That The Dark Knight Rises scoop from yesterday suggesting the first poster and teaser trailer was coming this week is now proven at least half correct this evening. Someone discovered the poster hiding on the official movie website, and did their bat duty in sharing it with the world.
I was already on a movie high from watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 tonight and came home to this beauty. The poster – make that epic poster – depicts the skyscrapers of Gotham crumbling down and the outline of a bat formed by the building tops. This version at least is black-and-white, and I already want to own it in the worst way.
What does The Dark Knight Rises poster signify? Will Gotham be partially destroyed in the film? Perhaps, but the imagery could also be a metaphor for the toppling of Batman’s life since he’s on the lam, or the grip Bane and the other villains will have on the city. Either way the poster certainly gives off an Inception vibe as the buildings fall.
The Dark Knight Rises is directed by Christopher Nolan and will star Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Morgan Freeman and more. It is the third and final film in Nolan’s Batman trilogy.
This awesome poster says summer 2012 for The Dark Knight Rises in theaters and IMAX, but the precise release date is July 20, 2012.
Next up before the week is out: The Dark Knight Rises teaser trailer.
