The Avengers arrived on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD this week and have been flying off the shelves. Since its release on Tuesday, online Amazon.com has lowered the price on one of the versions in a deal that’s hard to pass up.
From now until who knows when, Amazon is selling the Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD combo pack version of Joss Whedon and Marvel’s The Avengers starring Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, and Scarlett Johansson for only $19.99. That puts the price of the Blu-ray 3D combo only three pennies higher than the Blu-ray 2D combo and only $3 higher than the single-disc DVD edition. In simple terms, you are paying three cents for the additional Blu-ray 3D disc.

The arrival of The Avengers on Blu-ray has seen interest in the previous Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase One films soar. Currently Iron Man 2 is in the fourth position of Amazon.com Blu-ray bestsellers chart, Captain America: The First Avenger is in sixth, Thor is in seventh, and Iron Man is in ninth. Add in both of The Avengers Blu-ray editions and Marvel currently holds six of the top 10 selling Blu-ray spots at Amazon.com right now. The Incredible Hulk is a little further down in position 15.
These sales don’t even include the Blu-ray 3D versions of Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, both of which are in the top 25. Then there’s the delayed Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled Blu-ray 10-disc set that is back up for pre-order with an estimated spring 2013 arrival. That is priced at $139.96 and in position 40.
