The Artist stormed through the 84th Academy Awards in capturing the Best Picture, Best Director (Michel Hazanavicius) and Best Actor (Jean Dujardin) Oscars against stiff competition. Despite the big wins, the film has only earned $125 million in box office business with only $44 million coming from North America. The Blu-ray and DVD release aims to put more American eyeballs in front of the film.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release The Artist on Blu-ray and DVD on June 26, 2012. The Blu-ray version will be formatted in its original 1.33:1 aspect ratio. It will offer 5.1 audio, though keep in mind much of the film is silent. Also included is an UltraViolet digital copy.
